Remember when we were told the iPad was a consumption device?

Damon Albarn records new Gorillaz album on an iPad

Damon Albarn has told NME that he has been recording a new Gorillaz album on his iPad.

Speaking in this week's issue (cover date November 13), on UK newsstands now and available digitally worldwide, Albarn said he has been working on a follow-up to 'Plastic Beach' while on tour with the band.

"I've made it on an iPad – I hope I'll be making the first record on an iPad," he said. "I fell in love with my iPad as soon as I got it, so I've made a completely different kind of record."

Albarn added that he wants to release the album "before Christmas".

Get this week's issue of NME to read the interview in full, which also features Albarn talking about his plans for Blur, and a new project he's set to work on next year "that's really close to my heart".

Gorillaz are currently on tour in the UK - they play Manchester's MEN Arena tonight (12).

How did so many people get the iPad so wrong before it was launched? First we hard pundits claim that the device would fail and would struggle to find a customer base. And then we were told that the iPad was only be consumption device and that no-one would create on it.

Not only we over 10 million iPads find home in the first year, but we continue to see stories like this one were the iPad is a substantial creation device. But there is one distinction that has not been discussed, and that is that the iPad is not being used in spite of it's functionality, but it is creating entirely new workflows and processes.

Content creators are not using the iPad to make a point that it can be done they use it because it is there preferred method of creation. And if this is Day Zero, and with competition finally entering the market, I for one cannot wait to see what it will become.
